The holiday season is approaching and nothing ends a day of shopping and holiday bustling quite like a relaxing private tasting of whiskeys. Newtown,PA is full of new specialty shops and the famous Temperance House has reopened under new management. The new owner and chef have partnered with the Dram Devotees to create 4 courses to enhance and compliment each whiskey being presented.
Rye whiskey is one of the fastest growing trends in American whiskey today. It’s about time, too, as rye whiskey is native to Pennsylvania and has deep roots in American history. Whistle Pig is one of my favorite rye whiskeys. The ten year old is made with 100% rye grains and has a finish that lingers beautifully. The brand has won numerous awards and I feel it is a brand worth exploring further. Each rye whiskey expression in our tasting is dramatically different in nose, flavor profile, and finish. They are a few of the finest examples of ryes available on the market today.
Mira Bhakta, steward of the brand for Whistle Pig, will be joining us for a discussion of the brand, its history, and its contribution to America’s new-found enthusiasm for rye whiskey, as well as answer any of our questions. Each food pairing was thoughtfully chosen by myself and the chef at the Temperance House to compliment each whiskey.
